In Summer 2019, KlezCalifornia began a new program of periodic Kumzits events in private homes on a Sunday afternoon, 1:30-4pm. In Summer 2020, the three kumzitsn will be ONLINE Sunday afternoons, 3-4:30pm.
Meaning “come sit,” a kumzits is a fun, participatory event for all ages at which every person does something for 2-5 minutes: tells a Jewish joke or story, sings (or leads) a Yiddish song, plays a klezmer or Yiddish tune, recites a Yiddish poem, etc. We go around once or twice. Everyone participates!
We are now also trying different kinds of participatory online events.
