San Francisco Playhouse and Yiddish Theatre Ensemble Collaborate!

YTE is thrilled to announce a first-time collaboration with San Francisco Playhouse to co-produce the Tony Award-winning Broadway play, Indecent by Paula Vogel. This Bay Area premiere, directed by SF Playhouse co-founder Susi Damilano, opens September 22 and runs through November 5, 2022.

The partnership gives audiences the chance to see two extraordinary shows: our co-production of Indecent live at the San Francisco Playhouse and YTE’s award-winning 2021 video adaptation God of Vengeance – the play that inspired Paula Vogel’s Indecent. For those who have not seen Indecent, it portrays the real life events and controversy surrounding God of Vengeance when it first ran on Broadway in 1923.

This is also a great opportunity for both companies to share their resources and expertise. YTE Co-Artistic Directors Laura Sheppard and Bruce Bierman have been consulting on casting, authenticity and music with SF Playhouse. Bruce is engaged as Dramaturg and Yiddish Dance Consultant for the show and Dmitri Gaskin, well known to the Klezmer community, is Musical Director. Simon Winheld (Shlomo) and Rebekah Kouy-Ghadosh (Basha), seen in YTE’s God of Vengeance. have been cast as lead understudies.
