Free Yiddish classes, presented by Workers Circle of Northern California
Yiddish Classes in (or online from) the Bay Area, Yiddish Classes Online
Workers Circle/Arbeter Ring of Northern California is offering free, biweekly online Yiddish classes with instructor Marianne Tatom (Mirl) in Fall 2024. There are two levels of classes: Advanced Beginners and Intermediate. You must know the Yiddish alphabet (alef-beys) for both classes.
Regular classes resume September 13 and continue twice a month through December 20. Class times are: Advanced Beginners 1-2:30pm Pacific Time (PT), and Intermediate 3-4:30pm PT. Classes include reading, writing and speaking. The class dates are a little irregular this year due to the Jewish holidays. They will be 9/13, 9/27, 10/18, 10/25, 11/8, 11/22, 12/6 and 12/20.
There are also two catch-up beginners classes for those who need extra help before joining Advanced Beginners. You must still know the Yiddish alphabet. These classes will be on two Thursdays, Sept 5 & 12, 1-2:30 pm PT.
New students, to request an assessment of your level and to register, please contact the instructor, Marianne Tatom (Mirl) at marianne.tatom@gmail.com.
NOTE: Classes have used Sheva Zucker’s text: Yiddish: An Introduction to the Language, Literature & Culture, and other sources. The Beginners class has already completed part of Volume I. This class is a continuation of the Fall class.
