Yiddish classes (and more) presented by YIVO
Throughout the year, YIVO offers courses in Yiddish language and electives in Jewish history and culture that are open to the general public. In Fall 2025, in addition to electives, seminars, and advanced topics in English and Yiddish, YIVO is offering 4 levels of beginner Yiddish, 4 levels of intermediate Yiddish, 3 levels of advanced Yiddish, and 1 level of reading Yiddish (alefbeys course). Some courses are online and others in-person.
YIVO also runs the 6-week Uriel Weinreich Summer Program in Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture in collaboration with Bard College. This takes place each summer, in-person and online, and it is preceded by a 1-week online refresher course.
Based in New York, YIVO is dedicated to fostering knowledge of the ongoing story of Jewish life, with a focus on the history and culture of East European Jewry – the ancestry of a significant proportion of Jews in the world today.
