To get in the Passover spirit, the JCC San Francisco is presenting a special virtual concert by husband-and-wife duo: accordionist Jim Rebhan and soprano Barbara Hollinger. They’ll bring you to your feet with an eclectic variety of old and new Passover songs in Yiddish, English and Ladino, as well as some lively klezmer music.
Jim Rebhan has been a mainstay of the San Francisco Bay Area klezmer scene since 1980 when he began performing with the Ellis Island Old World Folk Band. He is the son of Jewish immigrants who left Europe in the late 1930’s and he grew up listening to Yiddish songs. His first accordion teachers were Italian immigrants in Chicago. Rebhan majored in music at the University of Chicago and has a master’s in composition from California Institute of the Arts. In addition to the piano accordion, he performs on drums and xylophone. Barbara Hollinger, Jim’s wife, is a trained soprano who has been performing with the Ellis Island Old World Folk Band for over a decade.
