A Treasured Yiddish Book That Stayed Hidden for 75 Years

Yiddish writer Chava Rosenfarb is now celebrated in Canada, her adopted home, and Poland, the country of her birth. But in 1949, as a young Holocaust survivor and refugee, she faced an uncertain future. One evening in London changed everything. Invited over from Belgium to launch her new book, Rosenfarb was feted by London’s Yiddish writers and hailed as a promising new voice in Yiddish poetry.
Rosenfarb’s daughter, Goldie Morgentaler, has just found her mother’s treasured copy of that book, signed by everyone present that evening. Goldie and Yiddish Book Center chief curator David Mazower will share stories of Rosenfarb’s and London’s Yiddish writers and discuss what this tribute evening meant to the young writer.
