Humboldt Jewish Music & Culture Festival

Temple Beth El in Eureka, California, presents the third annual Humboldt Jewish Music and Culture Festival, February 1 – 10, 2022. All events will be on Zoom.

Tuesday, February 1, 7-8pm Pacific Time
Yiddish Expressions, Curses and Idioms, a fun, interactive class with engaging and vibrant Yiddish scholar Pamela Brenner.

Thursday, February 3, 7-8:30pm
Lebedik (Alive and Lovely): Shlepping Goles (Exile), Yiddish Songs of Migration, with Sasha Lurje and Craig Judelman

Sunday, February 6, 10-11am
Mayn Yiddishe Velt, a concert of Yiddish folk, theater, art song, prayer and new compositions, with Heather Klein and Jason ManLaPaz

Sunday, February 6, 11:15am-12:15pm
Shanghai Angel is a new musical based on Rosa Ginsberg’s journey from Shanghai, China to the U.S. in 1940.  Heather Klein, Rosa’s granddaughter, will present musical selections from the show, and more.

Tuesday, February 8, 7-8:30pm
The Sound of Change: Performing “Jewishness” in Polish Small Towns.  Ellie Shapiro, PhD, will discuss Jewish music festivals in small towns in present-day Poland.

Thursday, February 10, 7-8pm
Music of the Mediterranean: An Evening of Sephardic Songs. In this lecture-concert, Kira Weiss and Flor de Kanela will present a selection of Sephardic songs from the Mediterranean region.
