KlezCalifornia November Kumzits: Calling would-be actors!

Calling all actors and would-be actors! KlezCalifornia’s seventh Kumzits will be a reading aloud of two plays in English that were adaptations of Yiddish short stories: Bontche Schweig (Bontche the Silent) by  I.L. Peretz, and The High School by Sholem Aleichem. There are fifteen slots for those reading the script and an additional ten spaces for individuals who wish to watch. We will have a short discussion after the conclusion of the performance.

We will screenshare the scripts during the Kumzits but not distribute the script in advance.

You can watch television productions of the two plays (with Zero Mostel) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFEX2m_M_CE
Bontche Schweig begins at 26:52 and runs for 19 minutes 37 seconds.
The High School begins at 46:29 and runs for 47 minutes 25 seconds.

Kumzitsn are free, but please consider a donation of $15 sliding scale (i.e. whatever you can afford) to support these programs and KlezCalifornia.

To reserve a space, scroll down to BOOK EVENT, click on NEXT, and complete the registration form. The reading/acting parts have been filled, but you may register as an observer. Registration ends at 8am Pacific Time the day of the event or when the registration limit for observers has been reached. If you are unable to register, you have already registered or the event’s capacity has been reached. You may write nu@klezcalifornia.org and ask to be put on a waiting list; specify which event you are writing about and whether you want to act/read or to observe.

You are welcome to register if you are committed to attending. If you register but are a “no show,” you are depriving someone else of the opportunity to participate. To cancel a reservation, write nu@klezcalifornia.org.

Registering for this event includes giving KlezCalifornia permission to take still and video images and use them for educational or other organizational purposes. If you do not agree to such use, please turn off your video when you join the event. To keep you informed of future events, we are enrolling registrants in our free monthly newsletter which includes klezmer and Yiddish culture events in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond! You may unsubscribe at any time. KlezCalifornia does not share its email lists with other organizations.

Those who have registered by Sunday 8am Pacific STANDARD Time (Check for your local time, as winter time begins on a variety of dates.) will receive sign-in by 9am Pacific Time that day. If you have not heard by then, write a.s.a.p. to nu@klezcalifornia.org. Please do not wait until just before the event begins to notice whether you have the sign-in info.
