Klezmer Fiddle Workshop, with Cookie Segelstein

Klezmer fiddling has started to make its way into the American Fiddle scene for several years now. Even though the scales and modes are very different from traditional American tunes, like the source of many fiddle tunes, this music was functional and meant to facilitate the coming together of communities through one of the most important events in Jewish life, the wedding!

In this workshop, we will learn the nuts and bolts of this Eastern European style. Ornaments, phrasing, rhythm and modes through three types of dance tunes: slow, medium and fast. We will also touch on one of the listening improvisatory forms, the Doina, taken from Rumanian Shepherd songs.

This the final Santa Clara Valley Fiddlers Association COVID-19 Celebrity Series Workshop.
