A Festive Live Purim Concert, with Jim Rebhan and Barbara Hollinger

Celebrate this lively holiday with new and familiar Purim songs and klezmer music performed on the iconic accordion and accompanied by song. Jim and Barbara return to the JCCSF to delight you with a special Purim-themed concert. You‘re likely to join the fun! Look forward to an exciting variety of Purim songs in Yiddish, English, Hebrew, and Ladino, as well as klezmer music and additional Jewish-themed songs. Come together and celebrate this holiday in person while we cheer Esther and boo Haman!

Jim Rebhan has been a mainstay of the San Francisco Bay Area klezmer scene since 1980 when he began performing with the Ellis Island Old World Folk Band. He is the son of Jewish immigrants who left Europe in the late 1930’s and he grew up listening to Yiddish songs. His first accordion teachers were Italian immigrants in Chicago. Rebhan majored in music at the University of Chicago and has a master’s in composition from California Institute of the Arts. In addition to the piano accordion, he performs on drums and xylophone. Barbara Hollinger, Jim’s wife – the dynamic and talented other half of this duo – is a trained soprano who has been performing with the Ellis Island Old World Folk Band for over a decade. She sang in the Yiddish musical Di Megileh of Itsik Manger, directed by Bruce Bierman, in 2015. She has also been involved with many Stagebridge productions since 2016.
