Sacred Music Session: Yiddish Songs with Rowan Katz

Rowan will be leading an intro to Yiddish folk song (we’ll be going over 2 songs) and some foundations of vocal doina! Participants will be given lyric sheets and sent source recordings. Please wearcomfy clothing and bring water and something to write with/in.

Rowan Katz is a vocalist, songwriter, poet, folklorist, physical theater artist, facilitator and somatic voice educator. They also lead Oakland-based diasporic folk project “Anam Chaya”. Their work most often concerns themes of trauma healing, diaspora, recovery, abolition, rematriation, grief, and mysticism. Touted as a powerhouse vocalist and performer, Rowan uses performance and education as a way to dismantle shame and foster expression, intimacy, critical engagement, and embodied connection in community.
