Women in Yiddish Song, a class with Cindy Paley

Connect to generations past by singing along to Yiddish folk songs! This class covers everything from heartfelt love songs to empowering tunes about the justice-seeking women of the labor movement and the partisan resistance fighters in the Holocaust. Leave with a more illuminated understanding of history, told from the perspective of Ashkenazi Jewish women. New music by Polina Shepherd, Chava Alberstein, and Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman will also be featured.

Cindy Paley served as the Music Educator at Valley Beth Shalom in Encino, California for thirty-six years. For the past twenty years, she has been the cantorial soloist for Lev Eisha and N’Shama Minyan, two prayer services for women in Los Angeles. In addition to her Jewish music recordings and family concerts, Paley teaches annual Yiddish music workshops at the Jewish Culture Festival in Kraków, Poland, and performs American folk songs of the 1960s with the musical trio, The Folk Experience.
