Yiddish History and Culture online course

The Jewish Studies Program at San José State University is this Fall offering a special online course entitled “Yiddish History and Culture,” which uses English language material to explore Yiddish culture, both in Europe and in the U.S.

Rokhl Kafrissen will teach the class from New York, where she is immersed in Yiddish culture, theater, writing. She brings that enthusiasm to her teaching of the diaspora of Jewish culture, from Eastern Europe to the US, and from the 19th century to our contemporary re-envisionings. It’s a course about immigration, labor, queer imaginings.

Mondays, Wednesdays,, August 21 – December 6, 12noon – 1:15pm Pacific Time. 3 units, tuition $840. Anyone may sign up to take the class through SJSU’s Open University program. Enrollment for non-SJSU students will open August 21, the first day of class.
