Krekhts
Even the casual klezmer listener knows what a krekhts is, even if not by name. A krekhts (קרעכץ) is a crack – a shrill cry of the clarinet, a break in the voice. An imperfection, but one which comes straight from the heart. Krekhts pulls together its repertoire from the drawers of Yiddish and klezmer history – the factory floor, the cheapest seats in the Second Avenue cabaret, the Borscht Belt, the Yiddish radio – and we toss an original or two into the proverbial fur-lined hat. The East Bay, where we met and have played since 2019, was a seedbed for the last Klezmer Revival. In that lineage, we contribute to the ever-changing nature of our people’s music, always referring to and rediscovering itself.
Krekhts is:
Binya Koatz (vocals)

Atid Kimelman (Clarinet)
Daniel Goldberg (Alto Saxophone)

and, when we can get her, Duygu Gun (Guitar)
