Yiddish Classes presented by Jewish Communities of Vermont

 Yiddish Classes Online

Jewish Communities of Vermont invites you to register for Yidish in di Grine Berg (Yiddish in the Green Mountains), offered via Zoom in six-week sessions with a break between sessions. For classes after January 2022, contact tweenmom@gmail.com.

Beginner Boot Camp is for those who have no knowledge of the Yiddish alef-beys or whose knowledge is a bit farzhavert (rusty). Our goal is for students to emerge from this class being able to read and understand simple Yiddish words. Instructor Howard Brown will incorporate songs and simple texts.  12/15/21 through 1/19/22, Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm. Zoom only

Advanced Beginner Class is for those who can already read or sound out Yiddish words. Students will continue to read elementary texts and will start on a bit of grammar to deepen their understanding of the mameloshn. Instructor Randi Hacker will incorporate music and realia including Yidishe Kinder Alef. 12/19/21 through 1/23/22, Sundays 3-4pm. Zoom only.

Intermediate Class is for those who are comfortable reading in Yiddish. Students will be introduced to more advanced texts and more advanced grammar. Students will continue with Yidishe Kinder Alef and read works by beloved Yiddish authors as well as articles from the Forverts. 12/19/21 through 1/23/22, Sundays 4:30-6pm.

Howard Brown began his Yiddish studies as a college student in the 1970s and has recently renewed his interest in the mame-loshn (mother language).

Randi Hacker has been a lifelong student of Yiddish and has studied with Janet Hadda, Mordkhe Schaechter and Dovid Katz. A verb she invented was included in the Yiddish Cultural Dictionary online.
